Shewesheley (sic)1566FF , Shewarsley 1579, 1585Recov , Shoasley 1779 F, Shewdesley 1826 G. 'Sigeweard 's clearing or woodland,' leah . The local pronunciation is preserved in the name of the adjacent Showsley Belt (6″), a wood, and in a field called Showsley Ground .
