Etymology

'East farm,' v. tun . East perhaps with reference to Denton and Whiston. John Maleđ (Latin Maledoctus ) held the manor in 1166 (P), the family-name being also spelt Mauduit (1242 Fees), Maudut (1268 Ipm).
