Etymology

'Dodda 's ford.' The same man perhaps gave name to the undocumented Dodmore in this parish. In the second form we have reference to the place where the bounds of the 'people of Dodford' (v. ing ), march with those of Newnham. According to Fuller, Worthies (290), the place had its name from a waterweed called dod , which grows plentifully here. The early forms do not confirm this etymology.
