Dodford Mill

Early-attested site in the Parish of Dodford

Historical Forms

  • atte Hil de Dodeforde 1330 Ass

Etymology

Dodford Mill. This is by the old mylier of the Badby Charter (supra 11 n.). Toller (BT Supplt s. v. mylen-gear ) is doubtless right in taking this to be a reduction of the word mylen-gear , i.e. 'pool by the mill.' Cf. Yarwell infra 209. Hill Ho was the home of Robert atte Hil de Dodeforde (1330Ass ).
