Etymology

Drayton is dræghæma gemære 1021–3 KCD 736, Draiton 1203 Curet passim with variant spelling Drayton , Dreyton 1261Ass (p).v. dræg , tun . It lies on a small stream. For the first form, with OE  hæme attached to the first element, cf. s. n. Doddenham PN Wo 46. The reference is to the boundary of the people of Drayton, where it marched with that of Newnham. Drayton has now been absorbed in Daventry, v. Addenda lii.
