Etymology

Chilcote's Cover (1825 O.S.) is the last trace on the map of the DB manor of Cildecote , referred to also as Childecote 1235 Ch, c. 1250PipewellB . 'Cottage(s) of the young men or servants,' v. cild , cot(e). The name is still surviving in fields called Chilcotes , in Thornby.
