Etymology

Long Thong Fm is Langetuang c. 1250Swaffham , Longeyonge t. Ric 2Rental . This is clearly a compound of the common word thong (OE  þwang ), used of a narrow strip of hide or leather, here probably applied to a piece of ground of a particular shape. The y of the second form given above is due to the common confusion in ME between y and the OE þ , as in the well-known ye for the .
