Charwelton Hill must be identical with le Graundone que jacet inter campos de Charwelton et Bifeld (t. Hy 3Harl D56). This may be a hybrid name containing OFr  graund , 'big, great,' and OE  dun. For similar hybrid names cf. Granwurth , Petitewurth (1201 FF) in Stepney (Mx).
