Etymology

The history of this p.n. is the same as that of Brampton (PN BedsHu 234). It is from brame and tun , hence 'brier' or 'bramble farm.' There are no remains of the chapel which gave name to Chapel Brampton and very imperfect traditions of it (Bridges i, 493).
