Etymology

This was originally an open space in Rockingham Forest belonging to the manor of Benefield (infra 211). In recent times the names have unhappily been divorced from one another by a new and artificial spelling and pronunciation of Beanfield.For lawn v. Wakefield Lawn supra 105.
