Etymology

This name was originally 'Badda 's burh', with early change of the second element owing to Scand. influence, v. Introd. xxii. The burh is perhaps that called þa ealdan burh æt Baddanbyrig in the Badby Charter, and if so it is to be identified with the prehistoric camp on Arbury Hill.
