Etymology

v. cot(e). The first element may be OE  fag, 'variegated,' with some reference to the building material of the original dwellings.In that case the spelling with l is an inverted one. OE  fealu , 'reddish-brown,' is also possible, but in that case we should have expected some early forms in Falwe -.
