Historical Forms

Etymology

If the DB form is to be identified with this place the first element is the ON  by-name Kámsi or Kámr (LindBN). This identification is, however, doubtful and it seems more likely that the first element is OE  camb or ON  kambr 'comb, crest, ridge' (cf. Cam 196infra ). v. dæl .
