Etymology

This name, like Upsall (Bird) 200infra , is the same as the Swed  Uppsala , from ON  up-salir 'high dwellings.' The name is a common Scand type: cf. Norw  Opsal , earlier í Vpsalum (Rygh, NG i. 138 et passim ).
