Etymology

'Hab(b)a's farm' v. tun . The first element is a hypocoristic pers. name Hab (b )a from some OE  pers. name such as Hēah - beorht or Heardbeorht . Cf. Hapton (Nf), Habetuna DB. A pers. name Habe is recorded (L) in Danelaw Charters 573, possibly derived from ON  Hábjǫrn , which would also suitably explain the first element of Habton.
