Etymology

'Tofi's farm,' v. þorp . The name Tofi though found once in Iceland and also in late Norwegian is by Lind and Björkman (NP 142) considered to be originally Danish. Cf. ODan  Towi (Nielsen). It is found also in Towthorpe (YER), Touetorp 1086 DB. Cf. the name Toui (LVD) and the common use of Toue in the medieval Danelaw.
