Etymology

This is a compound of wic and the common OE  personal name Æþelric , early reduced to Æþeric .

The later forms of the name in Ever - are due to the common interchange of th and v as in fever for feather . Cf. also the change of initial th to f in such names as Throxenby, Fingay Hill 110, 213infra .
