Etymology

Sedbury should be compared with Sedbergh (YWR) which is from ON  setberg 'seat-hill.' Sedbury like Sadberge (PN NbDu) is probably a parallel formation, with Norw  sate 'a small flat piece of ground on a hill' or even sætr 'shieling,' as in Sedbusk 260supra .
