Etymology

NEDial staddle is used of a wooden platform on which hay- ricks are built. Staddle Bridge crosses the river Wiske near its source where the river is narrow and the ground flat. The bridge could, therefore, originally have been a “staddle” thrown across the stream. v. brycg .
