Etymology

'Salmon pool' from OE  leax , 'salmon,' and mere. Normally OE  leax appears in ME  as lax , in the same way as OE  feax appears as ME  fax , but there is an example of lex cited by Stratmann-Bradley (ME Dict. s.v. lax from a 12th cent. version of Ælfric's Grammar, etc.). For the e -vowel cf. also DBLexintune , Hy 3 Ipm Lexinton , now Laxton (Nt).
