Etymology

'North farm' v. norþ , tun . The affix drit is from ON  drit 'dirt'; Lat. lutum = OE  clæg 'clay'; all these words refer to the clayey, swampy nature of the land round Norton. For le , v. Barton le Willows 38supra . 'North,' perhaps in relation to Boroughbridge, three miles to the south.
