Etymology

'Asgaut's farm' v. by . The first element is the ON  pers. name Ásgautr , on the various forms of which v. NP 14 ff. Forms with An - are due to AN  substitution of a continental form, and those with Os - to the substitution of the OE pers. name-theme Ōs - which was cognate with ON  Ás -.
