Etymology
v. þorn , tun . Cowling was originally a feudal addition like Picot in Newton Picot 227supra . Later the first element was lost. The name Colling appears in DB, Riev, and P (1185), and is a patronymic derived from OE Cola (v. Redin 46, 166).
