Etymology

Weybourne Hope, Waburnehope 1291 Bodl Nf Ch , Wabournehope 1418 Chichele, Waborne Hoope 1580 NfR, Waborne hoop 1587ib , Wayborne Hope 1610 Speed, v. ON  hóp 'small bay or inlet'. According to Camden (1722) the creek of Wauburnehope was fortified in 1607.
