Etymology

'Ouðulf 's tūn'. The first element is no doubt a Scand pers.n., OWScand  Auðúlfr , OSwed  Ødhulf , well attested in English sources, e.g. on coins (Ouðulf ) and in Domesday Book (v. Ekwall DEPN, Feilitzen 170, Insley 83). Feilitzen (§ 109) gives examples of loss of intervocalic ð .
