Etymology
OE lang and hām or hamm 'long homestead or long enclosure', no certainty is possible in spite of the numerous spellings. Langham originally consisted of two parishes, Magna and Parva. The parish church of Langham Parva (St Mary) was abandoned in the 16th century and is described as decayed by 1602. It has now “disappeared completely” (Pevsner 182, EAA 51: 54).
