Etymology

A group name in -ingas (Cyllingas ), 'the followers or people of *Cylla ', formed from the OE  pers.n. which is not recorded independently but evidenced in Cyllan beorg and wyll 772 (13 Sawyer 108) BCS 208, to be compared with Cyllanhricg KCD 1369 (v. Ekwall in PN -ing 58 f.).To account for the early variation in spellings Mills adds the OE  pers.n. Ceolla (Redin 46).
