Etymology

Ekwall explains the first el. of this name in - as the gen. of an ON  pers.n. Klyppr (v. DEPN s.n.), which he thinks is also the source of a tenth-century moneyer's name Clip (Redin 28). More recent finds enable Insley (269) to suggest as an alternative OScand  *Klippr (related by ablaut to Klyppr ). Both names would seem to meet the case. v. also Sandred 1988: 11 f.
