Etymology

An early group-name in -ingas formed from the OE  pers.n. *Blīcla , a hypocoristic form of names in Blīc -, connected with OE  blīcan 'shine' (cf. OHG Blicger , -hildis , -trud ). The group-name became a place-name when the group was associated with a particular place or district, '(settlement of) the followers of *Blīcla (v. PN -ing 56).
