Etymology

The exact interpretation of this apparently simple name is not quite certain. Probably the differing ME  forms arise from nom. lyteltun or lytela tun and dat. lytelantun , '(at the) small enclosure or farm,' v. tun . Certesey is Chertsey (Sr).
