Etymology

Shoeland Fm is Schooland 1384All Souls , Scholand 14th AD i, Sholands , Shoelands 1574 HendonSurv. The name is probably identical in origin with Shoelands (PN Sr 210–11). See also PN Ess 584–5. The first element is either the OE  scēo , 'shoe' or else sceolh , 'oblique, awry,' in either case with reference to the shape of a particular piece of land.
