Etymology

Hyde is la Hyde 1281Ct , 1289 AD ii, Hepeworthe Hyde 1315 BM, Hide 1675 Ogilby. v. hid , 'measure of land,' and Hyde Park infra 168. William de Heppeworthe held land in Hendon parish in 1285 (AddCh ). The family probably came from Hepworth in Suffolk or Hepworth in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
