Etymology

Greenhill is Grenehulle 1334MxRec , Grenehill 1563SR , Green Hill 1675 Ogilby, Girnell 1675 MxNQ iv and was probably the home of Henry de Grenehulle (1282MxRec ), Richard de Grenhulle (1307GDR ) and John de Grenehill (1479 FF). As there is no appreciable hill here, it may be that the name is manorial rather than local in origin, Henry having come from elsewhere.
