Etymology

Knightscote Fm is messuage called Knyghtcotes in Herefeld 1404 FF. The name may be a compound of cniht and cot(e), cf. Knightsbridge infra 169. More probably it is manorial in origin, from the family of William Knyghtcote , citizen of London, who held premises in Harefield in 1380 (FF). The family may have come from Knightcote (Wa).
