Etymology
'At the heathen shrines', from the dat.pl. wīhum of OE wīh, wīg . Wyham is situated on the slope of the edge of the Wolds rising from the 150 foot contour and overlooking the lower land towards the coast, an excellent site for a number of shrines. This is the most northerly example of a place-name commemorating Anglo-Saxon paganism.
