Etymology
The homestead, the estate of the Wadingas' from the gen.pl. Wadinga of the OE group name Wadingas 'the family, the dependents of Wada ' and OE hām 'a homestead, an estate'. The form in -heim is from the cognate ON heim, while those in Walde -, Waude - are presumably errors. The same pers.n. is found in Waddington (Kest) and Waddingworth (LSR). The affix Stainton is from the lost village of that name in Waddingham parish.
