Etymology

'The farmstead or village where nettles grow', v. netel(e), tūn .For Thwangcastre v. Caistor supra . Before the widespread use of fertilisers, the presence of nettles indicated a phosphate content in the soil, suggesting that the ground where they grew had been previously settled.
