Etymology

'Osgot's farmstead, village' v. . The first el. is AScand  Ōsgot , Ōsgod , a regular Anglicized form of ON  Ásgautr , ODan , OSwed  Asgutt , Asgot , in which Scand  Ás - has been replaced by the corresponding OE  Ōs -. The same p.n. formation occurs as Osgodby, now lost, in Bardney LSR and Osgodby in Lavington Kest.Forms in An (s )- are due to AN influence, v. Feilitzen 164–6.Osgodby is described as near to Kingerby and Kirkby. In DB, a tenant named Osgot is recorded as having held land in 1066 at South Cadeby LSR and Barlings LWR (DB f. 341b (3/48), 357a (26/21)).
