The first el. is an unrecorded OE  pers.n. *Ennica , probably a diminutive of OE  Enna adduced for Enston (PN O 347), Eney (PN Berks 456) and æt ennanbeorgum (PN Berks 727, 729) in the bounds of Wootton and Sunningwell.Dr Insley compares this pers.n. with OHG  Enno and “such Old Saxon formations as Enike , Enikin , Ennelin ”. The site of this lost settlement is indicated by the f.ns. on the 1833 and 1869 plans in the Earl of Yarborough's Estate Office, Brocklesby Park, at approx.TA 175164.
