Etymology

'Hrōc's farmstead or village', v. tūn , the first el. being the OE  pers.n. Hrōc , found in Roxeth (PN Mx 53–54), (et ) (sic) Hroces seaðum 845 (m9) BCS 448(S 1194), and adduced for several p.ns. including Roxholm, earlier Roxham, L Kest. It is once described as “near Newsham”. Spellings in -x - represent -ks -.
