Etymology

Twigmoor Hall, Twiggemore 1202 Ass, 1593Inv , Twigemor '1202 Ass, Twiggemor e13 (m14) PetML , Twygmore 1385 Peace, 1453 Pat, Twygmor 1387 Pat, Twigmore 1602 ArchJ xlviii, 1611Nelthorpe , 1671Red , 1710Nelthorpe , Twigmoor 1722Red , probably 'Twicga's marshy land', v. mōr . The first el. would then be the OE  pers. Twicga , which occurs in Twigworth, PN Gl 2, 157. Alternatively, as Dr Insley suggests, the first el. might be OE  twigu, ME  twig, twig(g)e 'a small branch, a twig', perhaps in some topographical sense.
