Etymology

Blakeman Beacon (lost), signumcalledBlakeman 1258 Ch, arbor voc ' Blakeman 1395GrimsCt , Blakman Netstonde 1444, 1450ib ; Blakeman is from the OE  pers.n. Blæcman , ME  Blakeman or the derived surn. In 1258 it is said to be a beacon, “erected in the port of Grimmesby, as a guide for fishermen and merchants coming to that port”, in 1395 to be a tree and in 1444 to be a “net stand”. This compound is not recorded in dictionaries.
