Mr Field points out that the importance of this place isperhaps indicated by a record of its transfer, in a Terrier of 1745: “This Close wasgiven by ye Honble Sr Thos Saunderson …(now Earl of Scarbrough) to ye Vicaragein lieu of 5 Beast Gates”)
