Etymology

'The outer secondary, farmstead, village (of Clee)', v. ytri , .This appears to be a unique Scand. compound. The forms in the 1587 and 1589Inv are noteworthy and are apparently simply alternative forms for Itterby itself. Itterby was situated a quarter of a mile south of Hole, and was later known as Middle Thorpe, Far Cleethorpes and Upper Thorpe, v. Baker 10, 18 etc.
