Etymology

'The farmstead, village of the Norwegians', v. Norðmann , gen.pl. Norðmanna , , a reference to an isolated settlement of Norwegian Vikings. The name occurs also in L as Normanby le Wold, PN L 3, 71–72, and as Normanby by Spital and Normanby by Stow in LWR.
