Etymology

'(The settlement of) the family or followers of a man calle Lilla', v. -ingas ; with the OE  masc. pers.n. Lilla . Lilinge appears in the Domesday Survey listed between Ullesthorpe and Bitteswell. But a case may be made for its location in Westrill and Starmore parish infra which lies adjacent to Lilbourne ('Lilla's stream'), v. Nth 72. According to the Domesday Survey, Ullesthorpe, Lilinge , Bitteswell and Starmore (Stormsworth ) were all held by Goisfridus de Wirce.
