Etymology

'Þorstein's farmstead, village', v. tūn . The common ON  pers.n. Þorsteinn (ODan  Thursten , OSwed  Þorsten ) had its second el. anglicized as early as DB by the substitution of cognate OE  -stān for ON  -steinn .For detailed discussion of the pers.n. Þorsteinn , v. SPNLY 313–17.
