Doddingthorne Mdw 1762, 1837 (Dodyngton 1467 × 84, Doddingthorn (e) 1601, 1612 et passim to 1700, Dodingthorpe (sic) 1684 bis, Doddingthorne medow 1601, Dod (d) ingthorn (e) meadow 1678, 1679 et passim to 1745, Doddington Thorn Meadow 1709 (18); Doddington was poss. the Anglo - Saxon name of the settlement preceding Rearsby, either' farmstead, estate called after or associated with a man called Dod (d) a', v. - ingtūn (cf. nearby Cossington), or less likely,' farmstead belonging to Dod (d) ing', v. tūn and Feilitzen 225)
