Etymology

'Sigsteinn's farmstead, village', v. . The pers.n. Sigsteinn is Swedish and is recorded in a number of runic inscriptions, v. SPNLY 235. The 16th cent. loss of t in the group -ston - > -son - is typical in Leics. p.ns., but is usually to be found when genitival s precedes the generic -ton < -tūn .
