The manor was held by Iuo de Haruecurt l.12GarCart , by Robertus de Harewecurt 1202 Ass and remained with this family as late as Johannes de Harecourt 1326 Cl, Nicholas Harecourt 1327 SR. The settlement lies on ground higher than its immediate neighbour Kibworth Beauchamp, hence Vuer ~, Over ~ 'higher, upper', v. uferra .
